Progress and More

OK, so as of now, I have exactly 50 pages to edit in my novel.  If I 10 per night, I can have it done in 5 days.  Let’s make it more reasonable, OK, how about 7 per night, that gives me one week to completion.  Cool!

Meanwhile, today I tossed out at a least a dozen books of morning pages and childish poetry.  Found some decent stuff and kept it: a handful of typed up poems, some notebooks with novel and short story concepts, some inspirational quotes, and a blank pad (woohoo! the writer loves finding paper).  I also came across some very high praise about one of my poems.  (Look for the one called “Slipping“.)

I forgot to mention that within 2 days of last week, I got this line: “pursue your degree” as advice in TWO different books I’m reading, one spiritual, the other about writing.  I don’t believe in coincidences, so I took this as a sign.

In addition, I found out that the closest college to me has a nighttime English degree program, BUT what’s really great is that they have creative writing classes AND something called “novel IS” or something that is a one on one.   Which leads me to believe it’s capstone novel writing seminar (I hope).  Most of the creative writing courses are at night, which is good because the tuition is half the price of the same class in the day (also think of childcare!).  So I’m psyched but I’m broke - no idea when this is going to happen because of money issue, but I have faith.  (Once again, anyway.)

Now I know I don’t NEED the degree, but it is a lifelong dream and I do need to write with accountability.  I hope this works out!

That’s all for now.

Starting to Work Again

It’s the worst possible time to start working on ANY project, business is booming, and I’m relocating to a home hubby and I are building in less than 30 days, BUT when ya gotta write, ya gotta write.

So last night I put in a section on my story about the daughter dealing with her mom’s Alzheimer’s.  My approach, I believe, is unique, and I’m thinking that this is exactly the kind of story that can get me into an MFA program in a few years.  That’s a while off, first I need my BA.  Besides, it will take time to write.

This makes me happy.

Writing Classes

Writers.com has some awesome classes in January, and all I need is $270. Yes, their classes are expensive, but they are WORTH IT. No, I have NOT been writing, how bad am I? So there is a class called “40 Days & 40 Nights: Deepening Our Practice“, in which you write 40 pieces or articles in 10 weeks, to get used to the practice of regular writing. Boy, do I need it! I came up to my desk nearly an hour to work on my story, and guess what? I DIDN’T. Failure again.

But I’m not discouraged. I had wanted to move off of my business and into writing, but that too does not seem to be The Plan. I’m rearranging my business a bit, but I need some funding for the classes as well as for the new business positioning. Sigh, it’s never easy.

Last night I came across some of the amazing things I wrote as a new mother 2-3 years ago, and I know that I wrote a few amazing lines during my 2 month old’s first week of life. I need to go ahead and paste them in, on this art site of mine and on my Other Blog. I have to see if some of the mom blog sites are looking for writers, and go ahead put my bid in if they are. Now THAT would be great, wouldn’t it? We shall see.
